What’s on my wish list

Like I mentioned in my last post, I am on a no-buy/low-buy, saving money and project panning is my goal until I am comfortable with my finances again. However with so many holiday sets coming out and so many beautiful makeup being released every day, I’m so tempted to buy one or two makeup items that I can’t seem to get out of my mind.

1. Nars Man Ray Double Take Overexposed Glow Highlighter

Pic credit: Temtaplia

It has a great rating over Temptalia and the closest dupe I have is Jouer Topaz. I love the design of the highlighter and it’s Nars! I missed out on the other highlighter palette Nars had as it didn’t come to Australia shore, hopefully this one will (fingers crossed🤞)

2. Shaaanxo BH Cosmetics collaboration the remix eyeshadow palette

Pic credit: BH Cosmetics website

Shannon is one of my favourite You Tube makeup guru and this remix eyeshadow palette has really caught my eye. I didn’t like their first collaboration since there is a side full of lipsticks that I know I won’t use. I want to be reasonable with my purchases and don’t want to buy anything just because! I have way too many eyeshadow palettes that probably would last me a lifetime. I mostly like the packaging as it’s compact and it’s pink. I also like it’s colour scheme, full of colours I would use rather than feeling uninspired or inappropriate to use Day to Day.

October, I love

Time really flew by in 2017, in about two months, another Christmas and New Year are here! Sorry for being MIA for the past 2.5 months, my pregnancy is going well (we are having a girl in mid January next year) however I’m so exhausted every day. Life has treating me well (small up and downs) I’m grateful with what I have and hope that life gets better each day 🙂

I haven’t been buying new makeup for a few months and I have been trying my best to budget, shopping my stash and project panning. I sometimes get overwhelmed with how many makeup I have bought in the last few years and feel guilty for spending so much money. My love for makeup is still going strong however I learn to shop wisely (i.e not buying makeup just because it’s new on the market or because they look pretty or limited editions).

Now enough babbling, let’s get onto the items i have been loving in October.

1. Stila stay all day liquid eyeliner

I’m a liquid eyeliner fan, and have tried a fair few of them from both affordable and high end brands. When it comes to liquid eyeliner, I prefer it’s in a pen form with thin felt tip as it’s easy to use and control. I need it to be black (unless it’s brown eyeliner), matte, long lasting (do not move around, smudge or budge) and waterproof or resistant. So far, Stila stay all day liquid eyeliner has been fulfilling these needs and possesses all the good qualities I ask. If I have to pick one flaw, that is, it’s not 100 % water resistant. I tend to have watery eyes sometimes and it sort of washes my liner off a tiny bit (not by a great deal).

2. ELF stiplling brush

This is a true multitasker in my brush collection. I have found that it performs well with both cream and powder product, I can use it for foundation, powder, blush, bronzer and even highlighter so I often use it as my one stop go-to brush when I have no time to sit in front my vanity but have to apply makeup in the car when my husband is driving. This brush is really affordable and it’s soft and never sheds (even after washes).

3. Maybelline lash sensational mascara (waterproof)

I rarely use false lashes and now I don’t even use waterproof mascara often ever since I discovered covergirl mascara in the green tube. For everyday that mascara serves the purpose. However when I need something provides more curls and length, do not smudge or flake even when my eyes become watery, the maybelline Lash Sensational waterproof mascara is my go-to. It can become a bit clumpy so I recommend wife off excessive product beforhand as it is a wet formula. I find it performs better when it dries out a bit.

4. Benefit Cosmetics brow zings (dark, old packaging)

I bought this brow shaping kit long time ago, and I used to think it’s too warm for my naturally dark eyebrows. I never used to like the waxing part of any brow shaping kits as I find they are not effective, colour is too light, formula is too slippery and so on.

Because of my goal to shop my stash and to use up products before I can buy new makeup, I find I have been reaching for this kit more often and like it more and more each day. I usually mix the wax and the powder together and apply them onto my brows using a angled brow brush. I draw the lines first and then fill in with more powders. I then use the a spollie to brush off excessive powders off my brows and to make them look more natural. The wax holds my brows together well through the day unless I rub it intentionally. In addition I always set my brows with a brow gel.

5. Daniel Wellington 28mm Melrose watch (silver watch face)

I have been loving this new 28mm DW timepiece, it’s simple, classy and goes with any outfit because of its silver hardware. It runs well and tells time accurately. It has self adjustable strap and can be done by myself using the tool provided in the box.

* Use my Discount code “melody15” to get 15% off on everything from Daniel Wellington and their special offers. The discount code is valid worldwide from today to 31 Dec 2017. Free worldwide shipping available. (I don’t not receive any commission however the watch was gifted to me).

Hope you have enjoyed my “October, I love” post, and I’ll try my best to blog more often 🙂

Colourpop Cosmetics ultra-blotted lip and blotted lip

A couple of weeks ago I finally gave in to Colourpop pressed single eyeshadows taking advantages of their free international shipping deal for anything above $50.00. To make the $50 mark, I also ordered two of their lipsticks in new formulas: ultra-blotted lip and blotted lip. (I thought they were called BOTTLED lip for some reason and was so confused as to why it’s called bottled lip, it DOES NOT make any sense, lol).

Ultra-blotted lip

Brand description
“Ultra Blotted Lip A medium coverage matte lipstick that creates a soft, diffused look. It is completely transfer-proof and long-wearing but also lightweight and comfortable. No cracking or flaking! Leaves lips smooth and fresh.
Finish Sheer Matte
Shade Pinks
Net Weight 3.0g (0.10oz)

Apply your Ultra Blotted Lip in a thin layer for most comfortable wear.

TIPS: To intensify your look, line your lips with a matching Lippie Pencil, this will help you achieve the perfect finished look and it will also give the appearance of fuller lips.”
The shade: Doozy

Like the product name suggested, blotted lip, it looks like that my lips were blotted with powder (with tissue on top) after applying the lipstick. It’s mousy formula that reminds me NYX lip lingerie and their soft matte lip crèmes.

The shade doozy is a coral red and extremely wearable. It is quick to dry and won’t budge after it is dried on the lips (transfer free). I was surprised that this ultra-blotted lip is not as pigmented as I thought however I think it matches the name of the product pretty well. It is to achieve that blotted lip effect rather than a full-on liquid lipstick. The shade lasted more than five hours on me (just drinking water), feels a bit dry when it’s first applied however feel quite comfortable the rest of the time. It dries matte and it’s easy to get it off at the end of the day.

Blotted lip

Brand description

“Blotted Lip Sheer matte lipstick that creates the perfect popsicle pout! Formula is lightweight, matte and buildable for light to medium coverage.

Finish Sheer Matte

Shade Pinks

Net Weight 1.0g (0.035oz)
Apply blotted lip like a lipstick, no need to blot. Build to desired intensity.”

The shade: Bee’s knees

It is a fuchsia shade, more out there however can be worn on a working day because it’s stain like on the lips. It’s not as smooth when applying on the lips. It’s not necessarily dragging on the lips but I prefer to tap it onto lips in three sections and connect the dots. After applying, it’s mostly transfer free (however I can see tiny bit stain on the back of my hand). This shade is also long lasting (more than 5 hours on me) and feel comfortable on the lips.

Both of the shades are easy to get off, do not stain lips.

Are you a fan of these two new formulas and what are your favourite shades? I would love to hear your thoughts and recommendation.

My capsule wardrobe: the Winter Edition

I went through so many phases throughout the years and I am finally comfortable with my own personal style. When it comes to style I think I am a minimalist. The outfit I wear needs to be comfortable and practical. I firmly believe that affordable does not mean less quality or less trendy (Bags are a different story for me these days unfortunately). I add a few new pieces to my wardrobe each season and donate the ones I rarely wear. Colour wise, I prefer to buy basic neutral colours like grey, black, navy or khaki however; I also love to add a pop of colours to my outfits.

Generally I have a 5-day rotation rule so I try to have about five pieces in each category. I add new pieces accordingly each season and when I feel that I need to.

Wool or wool blend coat

I only invest in good quality and classic style coats. Some of my coats have been with me for years. In winter I need wool coat to keep my warm and keep the wind away. Other than neutral colours I buy, I also has a hot red coat that I adore so much. It brightens a whole outfit instantly.

I only have one red parka and it’s so light, comfortable and warm. I don’t like thick and long ones as it makes me look top heavy and feel restricted.

Ponte pants

It’s the only style I wear as I love how it comes with elastic and high waist (it helps suck- in my belly), skinny legs and it is pull-on and stretchy. Main colours I buy are black, navy or dark green. I prefer they have slightly different designs so it won’t look like I am wearing the same pair of pants repeatedly. No more jeans for me as I feel self-conscious in it and it’s too stiff for my liking. This styled pants can be dressed up and down, formal or casual.

Knitted sweaters

Throughout weekdays, I wear knitted sweaters. Again it’s all about details, colours, patterns and prints. I do not like anything that is too busy when it comes to design, simple is key. I like my sweaters a little bit fit and flare. It’s by no means baggy, I just like it is looser from the waist area down. Length wise, I prefer it is about at my hips.
Basic colours are for the win. I love wearing them outside my dresses.

Tanks or T-shirts
Again, I like basic colours. It’s to be worn under some of my knitted sweaters.
Sweatshirt (no hood please)

I wear sweatshirts mainly over the weekend. Designs are the most important and I prefer cute, sweet designs or designs with a little bit character.

Nowadays I hardly ever wear dresses in winter (mostly for special occasions). I am afraid of the cold so much. If I do wear dresses, I still prefer one-piece dresses but have long sleeves. A-line, skater or swing dresses are my go to style.
Shoe collection
Ankle boots or Knee high boots

A pair of black and a pair of tan coloured would get me covered. This also applies to my knee high boots.

I love Converse sneakers however this style “chuck Taylor all star low dainty OX” is my favourite. With sneakers I don’t mind buying same style with multiple colours since I am picky with shoes and if I find something I truly love I stick with it.

Scarves, my engagement ring/wedding band and makeup are only accessories I wear in winter. I love match my outfit with different coloured scarves either in plain colour or with prints/pattern.

For work

My trusty Longchamp tote bag

It’s roomy and durable and also be doubled as a mommy bag if I want to.

For weekend

I love shoulder bags as they free me from carrying on my arms and I got hands to hold my daughter and my groceries. I am currently obsessed with my pink Gucci Soho Disco bag.

PS: I am saving up for my dream bags so I am going to be good and stick with what I have and won’t be tempted to buy any new bags for the time being.

Shops I like to visit are:

French Connection, Forever New, Glosson, ASOS, Boohoo, Witchery and some Korean shops in China Town.

Wanted, Wittner, Hype, Windsor Smith or Nine West

What are your favourite fashion style? I’d love to hear from you.
